  1. Impedance is a load calculation with a direction, and getting the direction backward is the single most common way to destroy a customer's amplifier. Wiring speaker coils in parallel *lowers* total impedance and *raises* current draw; wiring in series does the opposite.   4. Install using the OEM-specific or name-brand adapter/harness for the exact trim and year where one exists; only splice a factory wire directly when no adapter exists and the factory service manual confirms that wire's function.
  5. Set every signal-level parameter (amp gain, EQ, LOC output level) against a measured reference, not by ear, and record the reference value on the work order.
  6. Re-measure parasitic draw with all new modules fully asleep and compare the delta against the pre-install baseline; isolate the circuit and correct before delivery if the delta exceeds the low-teens-mA expectation for what was installed.

Impedance — naive read a generalist would produce: "Wire everything for the lowest possible impedance to get the most power." Each DVC sub's two 4-ohm coils wired in parallel = 2-ohm per sub; the two subs then wired in parallel to the amp = 1-ohm final load — below the amp's 2-ohm stable minimum.

Expert reasoning that overturns it. With two identical DVC 4-ohm subs, the only achievable final loads are 1-ohm (all coils parallel), 4-ohm (each sub's coils in series, the two 8-ohm subs then in parallel — or the mirror-image series-parallel arrangement, which also nets 4-ohm), or 16-ohm (all coils in series). There is no wiring combination that lands exactly on the amp's 2-ohm-rated sweet spot with this pair of subs. The 1-ohm option is below the amp's rated floor and risks thermal shutdown or a blown output stage; the 4-ohm option is the nearest safe configuration, at the cost of 300W instead of a theoretical 500W. Chosen wiring: each sub's coils in series (8-ohm per sub), the two 8-ohm subs wired in parallel to the amp — final load 4-ohm, within spec.

Gain — naive read: turn the gain up by ear until it "sounds loud." Measured result at that setting: amp output already a visibly clipped (flat-topped) waveform on the oscilloscope at only moderate head-unit volume — the preamp stage is overdriven well before the amp's rated power is used.
