  3. Isolate the failing component with a direct measurement, not an inference from the code alone: refractometer for DEF quality, manometer/ECM PID for DPF differential pressure, multimeter or scan tool for sensor output vs. spec.
  4. Price the downtime, not just the parts. Get the truck's daily revenue or the load's detention/lane value from dispatch, compare it against parts lead time and labor hours for each repair option.
  5. Choose repair-now, limp-to-terminal, or tow-and-swap-unit based on that comparison, biased against any option that risks a second roadside event or an OOS write-up.

Expert reasoning.
